Ridgeway is a small, peaceful community located in Northeast Iowa. The town is over 100 years old. Six men founded this town. The son of one of these men was William H. Klemme, a very important part of the history of Ridgeway. He started Ridgeway Lumber and was a candidate for lieutenant governor. Many things have happened in Ridgeway, one of the biggest was a fire that burned down most of the town.

The recreation of Ridgeway is a big part of the community. People come from the Prarie Farmer Bike Trail from Cresco and Calmar. Ridgeway has three parks and Gisleson Park brings the fans and parents to the baseball and softball games during the summer. The concession stand at the games is run by the Lincoln Leaders 4-H club.
The Prairie Farmer Trail runs alongside Highway 9 between Ridgeway and Cresco. The trail starts next to the Winneshiek Coop. The other trail goes from Ridgeway to Calmar. The Calmar trail begins at Roadside Park. The trail was made on the abandoned Milwaukee Railroad Line. The ties were removed from the railroad, the bed was graded, and limestone chip was compacted onto the trail.
Bicyclists, joggers, hikers, cross-county skiers, and snowshoers are allowed on the trails. Snowmobiling is allowed on a restricted basis between Ridgeway and near Cresco only. The trails were founded by the Iowa Department of Transportation and the Winneshiek County Conservation Board.
Ridgeway has many fine businesses. To see a listing of our local businesses click on the "businesses" tab.
